65TH INDEPENDENCE DAY OBSERVED AT ABETIFI KWAHU

65th Independence Anniversary Celebration has been observed at Abetifi Training College Park, in the Eastern Region on Sunday March 2022 as hundreds of people witness the colorful event.

The event which was under the theme “Working Together, Bouncing Back Better “assembled a selection of Basic and Second Cycle schools within the Kwahu East District Assembly as well as all the security agencies.

Speaking on the theme, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Agyapong expressed the need for everyone to pull resources together to prosecute the agenda of development through effective collaboration of all players in the various sectors of the economy for the benefit of the citizenry.

He said, with regards to the theme for this year’s celebration are acts considering the devastation caused by COVID-19 pandemic which has left many Nations including Ghana struggling to recover.

According to him, the term bouncing back has been increasingly and widely used in the context of the economy recovery from COVID-19, for the economy recovery from the COVID-19 crisis to be doable and resilient and return to business as usual and environmental distractive investment pattern and activities must be avoided.

He said government first priority in tackling COVID-19 pandemic have been to overcome the health emergency through the provision of needed PPE’s, vaccination of the citizenry and treated with persons infected with COVID-19.

“As we observe the Independence Day, it behooves on all of us as Ghanaians to come on board irrespective of our race, religion or political affiliation and bring out ideas of building a better country’ he added.

“Let us put national interest first, let us stay away from comments and actions that tend to divide us because it is only when we are united that we can develop our beloved country,” he stressed.

He said, some key education infrastructure projects has been constructed within the district, three-unit classroom block at Nkwatia SDA, construction of boys dormitory at Nkwatia SHS, completion of one dining hall at Nkwatia SHS, construction of classroom block at St. Peters SHS, construction of 16-unit classroom block at Kwahu Tafo SHS, construction of 18-unit classroom block at Kwahu Tafo SHS, construction of 16-unit classroom block at St. Dominics SHS, 3-unit classroom block at Kwahu Tafo R/C, and a host of others.

On agriculture, he said the assembly has within the COVID-19 period implementing the following programs and projects, construction of 2 pavilions at Kotoso market, distribution of 3200 cashew seedlings to farmers under planting for export and rural development, distribution of 50,000 cocoa seedlings to farmers, procurement of one number vehicle and 14 motor bicycle for agriculture department and others.

On health, he stressed that, the district has constructed one number CHPS compound at Mota, Abiso No.1, Oframoase and Miaso. With regards to water, the district has invested in the expansion of Pipe-born water to Abetifi and Pepease , construction of 12-seater toilet facility at Akwasiho, contruction of 14-seater toilet at Abetifi technical school with biogas facility, construction of 14-seater toilet at St. Josephs Technical institute, construction of 8-seater toilet WC at Abetifi Ridge JHS.

Hon. Isaac Agyapong assured that government would continue to create enabling environment for private sector to thrive, adding that the contribution of the sector to socio-economic development of the country cannot be underestimated.

He reiterated government’s commitment to continue initiate and implement policies and programmes such as roads, schools, health facilities among others that would better the life of the citizenry.

Hon. Isaac Agyapong admonished students to take their studies seriously and desist from negative and immoral practices which could put their lives into jeopardy.

He also called on the Teachers to continue to play their role by imparting knowledge and molding the character of the school children who he described as future leaders.

2021 Farmers day: Be weary of bush fires – DCE cautions

Isaac Agyapong, District Chief Executive Officer of the Kwahu East District has cautioned farmers to be weary of bush fires as the harmattan approaches.

He made this known at the 37th National Farmers’ Day which was held at Mota-Mireku.

He said bush fires impoverishes the soil, destroys the flora and fauna, and also destroys farm plantations which subsequently leads to food insecurity.

Hon.Isaac Agyapong, the district chief executive said planting for food and job(PFJ) program is a government flagship program intended to encourage the people to take farming more seriously than in the past by making it a respectable and profitable business which would create more job for them.

On PERD initiative, the DCE said the assembly received and distributed 144,500 kg of fertilizers, raised 200,000 cashew seedlings and supply to farmers free of charge. The district also received 5.4 metric tonnes of 5400 kg of improved maize seeds and distributed later to farmers.

He congratulated the hardworking and gallant farmers, fishers, agro-processors and other individuals whose toil has fed us as a people.

Mr Ibrahim Ayim a 43-year-old farmer from Miaso, was adjudged the overall best farmer in The kwahu East District.

He took home tricycle, double decker fridge, knapsack machine, field boots, silver basin, cutlasses, soaps and certificate.

Mr Ibrahim, the best farmer has 7.8acres of cabbage,4.8 acres of green pepper,2 acres of tomatoes,200 acres of cashew,350 acres of plantain and 8 acres of cocoa.

Others include,0.8 acres of watermelon,40 acres of teak,49 acres of garden eggs,5.2 acres of beans,1.6 acres of onion,200 acres of cinderella and 50 acres of “ofram” tree farms. The best farmeron behalf of awardees expressed gratitude to the organizers of the program and pledge to do more in the agriculture sector. Mr Ibrahim appealed to the youth in the district to involve themselves in the agro business to reduced unemployment situation in the country.

Other farmers were also presented with tricycle, silver basin, cutlasses, field boot, knapsack machine and certificates.

2021 Farmers day: Be weary of bush fires – DCE cautions

Isaac Agyapong, District Chief Executive Officer of the Kwahu East District has cautioned farmers to be weary of bush fires as the harmattan approaches.

He made this known at the 37th National Farmers’ Day which was held at Mota-Mireku.

He said bush fires impoverishes the soil, destroys the flora and fauna, and also destroys farm plantations which subsequently leads to food insecurity.

Hon.Isaac Agyapong, the district chief executive said planting for food and job(PFJ) program is a government flagship program intended to encourage the people to take farming more seriously than in the past by making it a respectable and profitable business which would create more job for them.

On PERD initiative, the DCE said the assembly received and distributed 144,500 kg of fertilizers, raised 200,000 cashew seedlings and supply to farmers free of charge. The district also received 5.4 metric tonnes of 5400 kg of improved maize seeds and distributed later to farmers.

He congratulated the hardworking and gallant farmers, fishers, agro-processors and other individuals whose toil has fed us as a people.

Mr Ibrahim Ayim a 43-year-old farmer from Miaso, was adjudged the overall best farmer in The kwahu East District.

He took home tricycle, double decker fridge, knapsack machine, field boots, silver basin, cutlasses, soaps and certificate.

Mr Ibrahim, the best farmer has 7.8acres of cabbage,4.8 acres of green pepper,2 acres of tomatoes,200 acres of cashew,350 acres of plantain and 8 acres of cocoa.

Others include,0.8 acres of watermelon,40 acres of teak,49 acres of garden eggs,5.2 acres of beans,1.6 acres of onion,200 acres of cinderella and 50 acres of “ofram” tree farms. The best farmeron behalf of awardees expressed gratitude to the organizers of the program and pledge to do more in the agriculture sector. Mr Ibrahim appealed to the youth in the district to involve themselves in the agro business to reduced unemployment situation in the country.

Other farmers were also presented with tricycle, silver basin, cutlasses, field boot, knapsack machine and certificates.

The district director of agriculture, Mr Isaac Mensah took the chiefs and people through the procedures of awarding the farmers, which includes the size or scale of the farm, diversity, farm sanitation, role and contributions in the community, knowledge in modern agriculture and records keeping. He commended the farmers for their hard work and urged them to do more to uplift the image of the district. The Aduamoaheneand chairman for the event Nana Ahia Tutu Brempongcommanded the assembly for hosting the 37th Farmers Day Celebration at Mota Mireku.
